    From the WEB:
Edward N. Guckert of Guckert tone ring and method book notoriety
conducted business from Toledo, Ohio. He founded The Union Music
Company which had stores in Toledo and San Francisco and Chicago.
"Guckert invented and patented that tone ring.
The Guckert ring was aftermarket and could be added to a tone ringless banjo.
But, apparently Guckert also contracted with Gretsch to make some banjos with
    his tone ring factory installed"
